Some people were born to wear blue jeans and cowboy boots. Either you’re one of them or you’re not. There’s something mysterious about the mix of denim and beaten leather, and fortunately I got to shoot just that at the Paramount Ranch recently. Tom had finished a blistering set of bluegrass when I asked if I could grab a few shots. Without missing a beat he slid his guitar down, sunk back onto the wooden deck and lit a Marlboro. Pretty simple stuff, to be sure, but a great example of how shooting someone in their element makes for the most interesting (and hopefully beautiful) portraits.
